Humanizing Pediatric Care

Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU (CHoR) is a nationally ranked pediatric acute care children's hospital located within VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Virginia. The hospital is rated in the top 50 for eight pediatric specialties in the 2025-26 rankings, including 28th in Nephrology and 39th in Cancer, and is ranked 2nd in Virginia and 8th in the Mid-Atlantic region. Shira Pollard, Director of Communications and Marketing for CHoR, and I have collaborated on several design projects to help raise community awareness around the services that the hospital provides families across the state.

Over the years, I have had the honor to design a series of illustrated infographics and advertisements to promote the Children’s Pavilion at Children’s Hospital of Richmond.

The most advanced outpatient facility dedicated to children in the region, the pavilion includes a surgery level, three levels of pediatric clinics, a faculty/research floor and seven levels of parking.

The Campaign

Infographics featured an original architectural rendering of the new hospital, family-friendly illustrated characters to appeal to CHoR's urban setting, diverse community and an array of patient statistics from the pavilion’s Level 1 pediatric trauma center, a first of its kind in the region and the state. Other projects included a series of social media graphics to promote summer safety fairs and the Children’s Pavilion’s first birthday celebration.
